  • What happens if someone waits too long for a dental checkup?
Over time, bacteria from food naturally build up on your teeth, even if you brush and floss regularly. While daily cleaning helps, some buildup is tough to remove without professional instruments If left too long, this buildup can harden and lead to gum problems, bone loss, and other dental issues. Regular checkups help keep your teeth clean and catch any problems early before they turn into bigger concerns
  • Is sedation available for nervous dental patients?
Yes. We offer multiple sedation options—including IV sedation—to help you feel calm and comfortable during your visit, even for routine procedures.
  • What is the difference between a new patient exam and routine exam?
A new patient exam is a full check-up for anyone visiting us for the first time. It includes a detailed review of your overall oral health, a full set of x-rays, and digital scans of your mouth and face so we can understand everything going on. A routine exam is for current patients who come in regularly. It’s usually quicker, may include fewer x-rays, and focuses on any specific concerns since we already have your dental history on file.
  • What at-home care should be done between dental checkups?
Brush twice a day, an electric toothbrush is recommended and floss at least once daily. Using a fluoride mouthwash can also help protect your teeth. It's best to avoid smoking and limit sugary foods since they can cause cavities and other dental problems.
  • What should I do if I have a dental emergency in Kissimmee?
Call our office right away. We offer same-day appointments for emergencies like toothaches, broken teeth, or swelling. Quick care helps prevent further damage and pain.
  • What happens during a dental cleaning?
During a dental cleaning, the hygienist will carefully remove any plaque or tartar buildup from your teeth using a small scraping instruments. Then, they’ll use an electric polisher with a special gritty toothpaste to polish your teeth, making them feel smooth and fresh. The cleaning wraps up with a rinse to wash away any remaining debris, leaving your mouth feeling clean and protected.
  • Do you accept new patients for general dentistry?
Absolutely. Whether you need a cleaning, exam, or long-term care plan, we welcome new patients of all ages at our Kissimmee dental office.
  • Is dental implant surgery painful?
We offer IV sedation, oral sedation, nitrous oxide (laughing gas), and local anesthesia to ensure a comfortable, stress-free procedure. While there is no pain during the treatment, mild soreness and discomfort afterward are common and manageable.
  • How long do dental implants last?
With proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime. Routine cleanings and checkups help maintain the health of the implant and surrounding tissue.
  • What is the healing time for implants?
The initial healing period lasts a few days, but full integration takes 3-6 months before the final restoration is placed.
  • How can I replace a missing tooth?
At Journey Dental, our team takes a personalized approach to ensure you’re a good candidate for dental implants. During your consultation, we’ll assess your oral health, gum condition, and bone structure using advanced digital imaging. If jawbone loss is a concern, bone grafting may be recommended to create a strong foundation for your implant. Once your treatment plan is fi nalized, we’ll schedule your implant procedure. A dental implant is a small titanium post that is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it naturally fuses over time to create a secure, long-lasting anchor for your new tooth. After the healing process, a custom-made crown, designed to match the color and shape of your natural teeth, will be attached for a seamless, beautiful smile. Throughout your procedure, your comfort is our priority. We offer IV sedation, nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and amenities like ceiling-mounted TVs, music, noise-canceling headphones, blankets, pillows, and a relaxing coffee bar to ensure a stress-free experience. Dental implant placement is a minimally invasive procedure, and most patients report little to no discomfort. With proper care—including daily brushing, fl ossing, and regular dental checkups—your dental implants can last a lifetime, giving you a permanent, confi dent smile that looks and feels completely natural.
  • Can I replace all my teeth with implants?
Yes! Full-arch implant solutions (All-on-X) provide a secure, permanent smile for patients missing all their teeth.
  • Do dental implants require special care?
Implants should be brushed and fl ossed just like natural teeth. Regular dental visits ensure their long-term health and durability.
  • How long is the recovery process?
Healing time varies, but most patients can resume normal activities within a few days. Full integration of the implant into the jawbone typically takes 3-6 months.
  • Can I eat normally with dentures?
It may take a little time to adjust, but with proper fit and practice, you’ll be able to enjoy a wide variety of foods without discomfort.
  • How long do dentures last?
With proper care, dentures can last 5-10 years. Over time, natural changes in your jawbone and gums may require adjustments or replacements.
  • How do implant-supported dentures compare to traditional dentures?
Implant-supported dentures offer superior stability, comfort, and chewing ability compared to traditional dentures, which may shift or require adhesives.
  • Will my dentures look natural?
Yes! Our custom-designed dentures are made using advanced materials and digital design techniques to ensure a lifelike appearance and comfortable fit.
  • What’s the difference between full and partial dentures?
Full dentures replace an entire arch of teeth, while partial dentures fill in gaps where some natural teeth remain.
  • Do I still need to see a dentist if I have dentures?
Yes! Regular checkups ensure your gums stay healthy, your dentures fit properly, and any necessary adjustments are made.
  • Is oral surgery painful?
We make oral surgery pain-free during the process and stress-free by offering IV sedation, so you have minimal memory of the procedure. At the end of the procedure, we’ll provide pain relief options. Since the mouth heals faster than most parts of the body, many of our patients feel back to normal within a few days.
  • Is IV sedation covered by dental insurance?
Most dental insurance plans don’t cover sedation, which can be frustrating—but that shouldn’t keep you from getting the care you need.
  • How does IV sedation work?
IV sedation helps you enter a dream-like state during your dental procedure, keeping you calm and comfortable the entire time. You’ll still breathe on your own, and no breathing tube is needed. The medication is given through a tiny, soft tube placed in a vein, usually in your arm or hand so you can relax without worry.
  • Am I a good fit for IV sedation?
IV sedation can be the perfect solution for adults who experience anxiety at the dental office. To ensure patient safety, we do require anyone who is interested in IV sedation to get a physical before the procedure. We are happy to discuss IV sedation with you in more detail! Just give us a call!
  • Are you awake during IV sedation dentistry?
IV sedation, sometimes called “sleep dentistry” or “twilight sleep,” helps you feel very relaxed and keep your mouth open while being aware enough to respond if needed.
  • Is general anesthesia at the dentist safe?
With an experienced nurse anesthesiologist and Dr. Hoover monitoring your vital signs throughout the procedure, you can relax knowing you’re in expert hands. This allows your dentist to focus entirely on your care, while any concerns are quickly and safely addressed.
  • What are the benefits of IV sedation dentistry?
Fear of the dentist is very real, and many people put off care because of it. Unfortunately, waiting often leads to bigger, more painful problems later on. Sedation dentistry helps you stay relaxed and comfortable so you can get the treatment you need without stress or fear. It’s especially helpful for those with dental anxiety, complex procedures, difficulty sitting still, or a strong gag reflex. Sedation reduces discomfort and relaxes the body to make it easier for the doctor to work.
  • How long will IV sedation take?
IV sedation works quickly, helping you feel calm and relaxed within minutes. The effects wear off at different times depending on your procedure, but you may feel drowsy afterward. That’s why we require having a friend or family member drive you home
  • What is Digital Dentistry?
Digital dentistry uses advanced computer technology to improve accuracy, efficiency, and patient comfort in dental care in Kissimmee. From high-tech imaging for precise diagnosis to computer-guided design and creation of dental prosthetics like crowns, bridges, and dentures, this modern approach ensures better results with fewer visits.
  • How Do Digital 3D Printed / Milled Dentures Work?
Instead of messy molds, we use a small handheld scanner to capture accurate 3D images of your teeth and gums.Advanced software creates a personalized denture design for a precise, natural fit. A 3D-printed/milled wax model is made for you to try on, ensuring comfort and speech clarity. Once approved, your final dentures are created with high-quality materials.
  • How Long Does the 3D Printing / Milling Process Take?
The time needed depends on the complexity of your dental piece, but 3D printing/milling makes the process much faster—what used to take weeks can now be done in just hours or a few days!
  • Is 3D-Printed / Milled Dental Work Long-Lasting?
3D-printed and milled restorations use the same durable materials as traditional dental work. Advanced technology ensures a precise fit and faster results without compromising strength or longevity.
